You’re the Body of Christ [Part 3]

Are you ready for some good news?
You have been given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift!
Today’s Text: “But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”” (Ephesians 4:7–8, ESV)
It means that you can be sure that you have been given gifts of the Spirit, but it means something even more glorious.
Markus Barth translates the text like this: “the gift of the Messiah is the measure.”
Paul is using logic here that is similar to what he writes in Romans 8:32: “if God did not spare His only Son, how much more will he give us all….” The grace (giftings) that you have received are in proportion to (according to the measure of) the gift of Christ Himself. In other words, because Christ was given, you can be assured that His “charis” (grace) has been given you.
If you want to know the wealth and depth of the gifts He had deposited in you, look to the gift of Christ Himself. If you can see the surpassing greatness of the gift of Christ’s life for you, then you can also appreciate the unspeakable value of the gifts of the Holy Spirit within you.
Thus, I can say with confidence- you’re more gifted than you know! You don’t need any other validation of the value of the gifts of the Holy Spirit than the simple, straightforward affirmation of Paul here. You are given gifts of the Spirit that are fitting and in proportion to the same grace that was given to save you! And that’s the gospel!
